How to Identify Fake Cellphones

June 25th, 2008 by Ellis | No Comments | Filed in Technology/Gadget

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has advised gadget shoppers to be vigilant when buying cellphones to ensure that what they are getting are the genuine units, not the fake one made in China.

This warning came as several fake cellular phones are openly sold at various mini-stores especially in Quiapo, Manila; Greenhills, San Juan and Makati Square in Makati City, all in Metro Manila.

Buyers should buy phone kits rather than Chine-made cellphones because phone kits are registered with the NTC while most of the China phones are not.

One of the best way to identify if the cellphone is fake it so look for the NTC sticker that can be seen at the back of the unit once the battery is taken out. The NTC sticker is small, white and contains the NTC logo.

Most refurbished and China-made phones don’t have the NTC sticker because these have not gone through the scrutiny by the NTC.
